Shaving cutter is a high precision tool in the form of a disc type helical gear with slots running down the flank, forming cutting edges. The helix angle of its teeth is different from the helix angle of the work gears to facilitate the smooth finishing (shaving) of the flanks of the works gears.
The gear shaving process improves the surface finish of gear flanks to great extent and reduces tooth profile error, index error & lead error on work gears manufactured by Hobbing and shaping operations. The requirement of crowned tooth form or taper tooth form to avoid end bearing condition is achieved by the shaving process.
Mostly used to give high precision finishing after doing the gear Hobbing. To get the best accuracy of finishing in gear – these cutters are used as last operation. Widely used in Automobile gear industry in conventional type, diagonal, plunge cut with a wide range of sizes according to the customer requirement. According to the component desired finishing these cutters are designed to incorporate profiles for tip relief, depth crowning, lead crowning etc.
Generally made in Raw material HSS M2 or ASP23 to give high precision finishing – we recommend them different types of raw material & surface PVD coatings 2-4 microns to have a smooth and better life of cutters
